Solar Alberta’s Mission:
To advance community, collaboration, and understanding around Alberta’s renewable energy resources and energy efficiency potential. We are the trusted centre of a shared commitment to inform Alberta’s energy transition toward a bright sustainable future.
Formed in 1991, Solar Alberta is a non-profit educational organization located in Edmonton, Alberta. We provide free educational events, training and classes, exhibits, school presentations, public demonstrations, consulting services, and media appearances. We act as a technical and policy resource to the public, trade associations, post-secondary institutions, and various levels of government.
Solar Alberta’s membership comes from many walks of life; from educators and engineers to solar installers and homeowners. The only real requirement is an interest in alternative ways of thinking about our energy use.
Our membership is made up of individuals and businesses. Individual members receive certain benefits and constitute our society’s voting membership, meaning they can vote at our society general meetings and put forward their candidacy for our board of directors. Our business members receive valuable benefits, including inclusion on the Solar Providers Directory, which is the most popular directory for solar energy and green building services in Alberta.
In 2014, Solar Alberta received Alberta’s highest environmental honour by winning the Emerald Award in the coveted Community Group & Nonprofit Association category.
